Q. I writing a paper about how the government cuts are substantially hurting the mentally ill but I don't know where to start.

Delgado has a writing lab in building 1, room 216W, that can give you tips on the actual writing of the paper. Delgado's City Park Moss Memorial Library has a helpful Reference book called How to Write a Great Research Paper that you could also come in and take a look at.

You'll need an introduction in which you get the reader's attention, give a brief overview of your topic, and state what the main idea, or thesis, of your paper will be. Then the main body of the paper will have paragraphs of similar information grouped together in a logical order to explain and support your main idea. The end of the paper, the conclusion, should sum up the topic. No new information should be introduced in the conclusion. This is the place to add your personal opinion on the topic if that is appropriate for the type of paper you are writing.

Delgado libraries and databases are a good place to do research so that you have books and articles to support your ideas in the paper. You can come into the library and we would be happy to help you get started with your research. You can also look at our databases on-line for magazine and newspaper articles. If you want to search multiple journals by subject to find articles on your research topic the database Academic Search Complete is very helpful with over 10,000 full text journals and periodicals.
